………..”I want Grandma!”…..”I want Grandpa!”……”You’re not my friend, Loa is!”…. My response, “It’s ok, mommy doesn’t need friends, I have plenty!” Hoping they would put me in time-out so I can nap! Lol!
Welcome Home Mommy!, I think! Haha
Oh the stories I could share! I have to tell you, I failed Mommy Hood 101 already! But I did figure out one thing since I’ve been home….I’m not the problem! …”They are” Lol!
Let’s see, the first week I finally had time to chat to my friend, Kristin. We’ve talked twice since I found out I had cancer. She called. She called again. She dropped me a note, then another message. OK, I finally call her back. Ladies….you know how the story goes from here. …. “And she,” “oh ya they,” “no way, who?” Yup! At least 30 minutes later…I hear a very loud bang! I stop, listen. No cries… So I continue talking. Keep in mind, I’m sprawled on the couch, yes the couch….(I did just return from months of horrible drugs! Haha!), Mike’s at work and the kids…well they are somewhere in my kid proof house. A few seconds later, after the loud bang, I hear a loud cry and then another. OK, you would think one would say, I need to go. No, I get up, continue talking and head to the formal living room. To my very big surprise…. My tall green chair, is flipped over.
…..Elena is so scared , her mouth is covered in blood as is her face, she is wiping blood all over, not even realizing she’s bleeding. Morgan is ok, she’s still in shock, wondering why the chair flipped. I mean, no one did anything that would have made that chair just flip…. And there’s Alexa, practically screaming..her leg is pinned between the chair and the tile floor. …..Ouch!
“Krisitn, I better go.” Hmmm, maybe I should have said that two paragraphs ago! Duh! Lol!
Other than bumps and bruises and blood…the girls were ok. It turns out, they had a brilliant idea, all three sit on the top of the chair, in case you don’t know…this chair has a very high back. Like a King’s chair…no it’s not Mike’s! Queens sit in them too!
So a little bumpy start! I mean, I was thrown back into this without being retrained ya know!
A few days later, Alexa and Morgan have their ice cream “social” at their new school. All dressed up…cute as ever! Mommy, well she gelled the hair,. Yes, I have some hair!, Rolled on the floor a bit to get in my jeans and off the extra pounds and I went!
Elena has now joined us. The girls ate ice cream. Drank punch! Ate cookies! Drank punch! Ate more ice cream! Drank punch! Ok, maybe this event was for the mommies. My girls are only interested in the ice cream and punch!
Finally , we go outside to the playground. “Peace mommy!” Naturally, I start introducing myself. “Boy, you have your hands full” If I could only collect a dollar each time I hear that line…. :<)
” Next thing you know, I have a little Mommy group going. However, I start zoning! (Seriously, it’s a real problem….something chemo has done to my brain) I’ve gathered a mommy circle and woman are chatting all around me, I have no idea what they are talking about or who is talking. And forget me remembering anyone’s name!
…..Oh ya, my kids. Morgan and Elena are playing together and Alexa approaches me.
“Mommy, I want to go in.”
“Sure, go ahead”
Problem is, I just gave my three year old permission to “just go in.” Really! She doesn’t know anyone inside, The only thing she knows is there’s more ice-cream, cookies and punch inside there!
Me, well I’m still outside, another 15 minutes go by and I decide, we should leave, I’m tired. So I gather Morgan and Elena and off we go, inside to get Alexa.
Of course, no Alexa. Did I really think my three year old daughter would be ok “inside.” Alone. Just sitting there like the angel I raised?! Haha!
Let’s try this again, “Morgan and Elena, you guys wait here for mommy while I look for Alexa! Don’t move!”
So there we are….teachers and mommy in full force, hunting down Alexa. You‘ve never seen a cancer chic with a limp move so fast when I thought about the possibility of Alexa going out the front door, heading toward the pond!
No Alexa!
Finally, I decide to go back to the playground and look for her. Guess who’s off in a corner with a mom and her daughter…you got it, Alexa!
I have no idea when and how she got back outside. One, the door is heavy! Two, I was standing a few feet from the door!
So, maybe I’m not quite ready to take on my responsibility as a mother! This zoning thing is a real problem, honestly!
And last but not least….
Elena! Oh what a sweetie!
When I came home, I immediately changed out the girls closets from winter clothes to spring/summer! Everyone was so excited, new clothes!! My girls are all about clothes and shoes! Well, most are! Anyways, I bought Elena a striped embroidered dress from the Gap while I was in Michigan. I must have hung it in her closet, not washing it. This particular day, I begged her to wear it, I think I even made a deal with her. Something Aunt T has taught the girls and she taught them well…everything’s about a deal!
We agree! She wears it! Off to school…..
It’s evening now….I’m cooking dinner. Elena’s telling me about her day. I ask her about her friends. Then she says, “Mommy, look…I have extra underwear hanging from my dress” as she slightly lifts it!
I was cracking up! Of course my first question is, “Did you show your teacher?” Wondering how long I’d have to hide from embarrassment! I sent my daughter to school with the bloomers still attached to the dress!!! Hahah!! Only me!!
So there you have it…Chemo brain in full force!! It’s been fun despite the lack of energy! We are slowly getting a routine again and guess what…. There’s so much more laughter at the Paxxxxx’s!! It feels good but we miss Grandma, Grandpa, Loa, Pinky, Emily, Mark and ALL my sisters and brother!! You guys gave these girls many great memories….and a bond that can never be broken!
(This should get good, Mike's out of town this week!)
